Happy Spring!

It looks like “Little Bunny Foo-Foo” is making an appearance in the April photo (along with a real bunny from the TP Zoo)!  I couldn’t help but think about the words to the song that is acted out every year as a skit at various TP campfires throughout the summer and how those words play out at camp.  As the story goes in the song, Little Bunny Foo-Foo is hopping through the forest, scooping up field mice and bopping them on the head.  Then along comes a Good Fairy, and since she doesn’t like that kind of behavior, she gives Little Bunny Foo-Foo 3 chances to think of a better way to treat the field mice before turning him into a Goon.  Unfortunately, Little Bunny Foo-Foo can’t seem to get his act together, and so he continues to bop field mice on the head, and true to her word, the Good Fairy turns him into a Goon (poof!).  Moral of the story: Hare Today, Goon Tomorrow!

Lessons Learned from “Little Bunny Foo-Foo”: 1) No bunny  (I couldn’t help myself on that pun!) is expected to be perfect at camp — we all make mistakes (and hopefully learn from them in order to do it better the next time)!

2) There are alternative ways to treating one another other than “bopping ’em on the head” — even though disagreements may come up (that’s just life!), we promote a community of respect and establish guidelines for group living on the very first day of camp.

3) The counselors at Towering Pines are like the “Good Fairy” in the sense that they give campers multiple chances to learn and grow while trying new things and practicing previously learned skills.  TP counselors are great mentors and coaches!

4) “Hare today, Goon Tomorrow” — Camp days go by quickly, and it is important to make every moment count to get the most out of the Towering Pines experience!  See you SOON!
