Happy Something-on-a-Stick Day from Cabin 5!
This is not your typical “Hallmark” Holiday! Kudos to Cabin 5 for thinking of something new and different! Here is a little more about the campers from Mohawk:
What was the highlight of your summer?
Luke: Nearly getting my crew in sailing – I just started working for it this summer.
Henry: Getting “catch” of the day in fishing – a 17 inch large mouth bass was the biggest!
Paul: I enjoyed Adventure Day, Sunday’s, playing games with my friends and riding horses.
Chris: Surviving for 3 days in spoon assassins – longest personal time ever!
Joel: Getting “Chief of the Day and winning many events in Olympics. I also enjoyed campfires.
Pato: Capture the flag was really fun because I also play it at school and enjoy the challenge.
Isaac: Learning how to water-ski.
What are some ways you were able to enjoy just being a kid and getting to play at camp?
Luke: Playing laser tag, teaming up and raiding each other’s bases – something that can’t be done at home.
Henry: Getting to participate in Olympics and all of the activities that go along with it.
Paul: Playing card games, joking around about various things that are amusing, and seeing all of the beauty in the Northwoods.
Chris: Being able to do knee-boarding, sailing, and shooting in archery – all things that I can’t do at home.
Joel: I really enjoyed skin-diving and catching fish as well as seeing them. I liked going fast in sailing. I had fun skiing and getting better at doing tricks.
Pato: Being able to meet new people and being free as a camper to enjoy the activities at camp.
Isaac: Being surrounded by other campers to play and laugh with.
What is something for which you are most proud?
Luke: Getting 4 awards in Olympics: riflery, 2 races, and swimming.
Henry: Passing to 30 yds in archery after starting at 20 yds.
Paul: I was happy about many things I did at camp, but the one that I am most proud of was getting “Chief of the Day”.
Chris: Passing to 30 yds in archery and increasing my skills with shooting a bow.
Joel: I completed both levels 5 and 6 in swimming and passed out of the activity. I also passed my Black Yeoman and Black Bowman at 20 yds.
Pato: Slalom skiing – I went straight into it. I fell over at first, but ended up learning to get up on one ski quite well.
Isaac: Shooting a 49 out of 60 in archery at 20 yds with a recurve bow.
What did you learn most about yourself?
Luke: I found a love and passion for sailing – being out on the water with nothing but the wind to propel you.
Henry: I can shoot well if calm is maintained. I am better at shooting than at sailing.
Paul: I am most appreciated by others when I am calm and kind.
Chris: Sometimes a game isn’t all about winning, and just playing can be even more fun than the competition.
Joel: I was able to improve my English. This helped me to talk more to different people; I am able to understand them better.
Pato: I can achieve things I never thought I could, such as slalom skiing. I saw my Dad do it and never thought that I would be able to. After seeing fellow campers get up on one ski, I tried and achieved it, too.
Isaac: I learned that I love to draw cartoon characters.
