Breezin’ up

It’s hard to believe that we’re already four weeks in…

Coed sailrace 7/18/13

A full fleet under full sail power!

The summer solstice came and went, the days are getting shorter, and we are approaching our last session of summer 2013! Each year goes by quicker than the last and I sometimes forget to just stop and enjoy the Nokomis breeze and sunshine on my skin.

We had another coed regatta today (pictured above) with the Woodland girls. One of our up-and-coming skippers, Ryan B., came in first place on the X-Scape; even with the distraction of two lovely Woodland ladies on his boat. He has also earned the moniker of Capt. Izgonbeehotwon following his triumph in the Dread Pirate Regatta the other day.

Pictured: majesty.

A bit windy for paddleboarding…

We’ve had some big breezes the past few days. They’ve been building before a rumored cold front and making for some interesting sailing out here. Some of the more adventurous sailors experimented with paddleboarding and kayaking the other day, to mixed results.

The CITs have begun coed show rehearsals this week, gearing up for the big end-of-year show. We can’t wait to show all you parents what we’ve been working on! The guys are pretty excited, but that may have more to do with seeing the girl CITs every night than it does with singing and dancing. Personally, I think we’ve got a great line-up.

Every night, I pause before turning in to reflect on how lucky I am to be at this place. I’ll often stand out on the dock just to breathe deep of the night air and remind myself that it will all be over before I know it. I’ve been raised here at camp and it’s easy for me to take it for granted, but those are the moments when I know I’m right where I belong.

Turn to the last page of your Vespers songbooks. Let’s close with a little Bridge of Gold.

Good night, Nokomis!

Oft times, upon Nokomis on many a moonlit night…
